Chronic obstructive disease (COPD) with exacerbation

Study

Constantly exhausted and out of breath!

People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease usually have one or more of the following symptoms: shortness of breath, chronic cough, production of secretions, more frequent respiratory infections, increased fatigue, unexplained weight loss, and reduced ability to perform daily activities.

In most cases, what causes COPD and therefore the high likelihood of suffering from the symptoms mentioned earlier is smoking. It is estimated from studies that 90% of COPD is linked to cigarette smoking.

You may be eligible to participate in this clinical study if you:

  • Are between 40 and 85 years old, inclusive
  • Have been diagnosed with COPD for at least 1 year
  • Have a history of smoking ≥ 10 pack-years
  • Have a documented history of high risk of exacerbation defined as having ≥2 moderate or ≥1 severe exacerbation during the year, with at least 1 exacerbation treated with systemic corticosteroids. At least 1 exacerbation must have occurred while taking medication for the treatment of COPD.
  • Take COPD pumps daily for 3 months or more.

Although participation in a clinical trial is voluntary, qualified volunteers participating in this study will be compensated for their travel expenses. Compensation will be discussed by the research clinic staff at the time of contact.

The study process in pictures

Explanation

Step 1 | Before starting the study, we will take time to fully explain the selection process and the conduct of the study by phone.

Meeting

Step 2 | After the initial phone interview, if you are still interested in taking part in a study, we schedule a preliminary meeting with you during which you may ask all the questions you wish and take the time you require to read over the consent form. This form explains, in detail, the different stages of each study.

Decision

Step 3 | You may make a decision at that time to move forward with or terminate the selection process. However, you are under no obligation to make an immediate decision. Based on briefing content, you may take the time necessary to come to a decision and consult with your personal physician or loved ones.

Tests

Step 4 | Depending on the nature of the study, some tests or medical examinations may be required. In the majority of cases, these tests or examinations are conducted on Diex Research premises based on your individual availability.

Departure

Step 5 | If you are eligible, you may then begin a clinical study with us.
