Prevention of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events

Study

Clinical Study on Cardiovascular Health and Lp(a)

Your cardiovascular health can be influenced by several factors. Some are well known, such as cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, or smoking. Others are less familiar, such as lipoprotein(a), also called Lp(a).

Lp(a) is a blood marker related to cholesterol. When it is elevated, it may be associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular problems.

Diex Recherche is currently conducting a clinical study in Joliette and Trois-Rivières to evaluate a study medication, taken as a tablet, in adults with elevated Lp(a).

The Situation

Cardiovascular problems can be linked to several risk factors. In some cases, a less familiar marker, Lp(a), may also play a role. Since most people do not know their Lp(a) level, the research team will verify the applicable criteria as part of the study.

Study Objective

This study aims to evaluate whether a study medication could help reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with elevated Lp(a).

It is intended for two types of profiles: people who have already had cardiovascular disease involving the arteries, and people who have never had this type of event but have certain risk factors.

Who May Be Able to Participate?

You may be eligible if you are 18 years of age or older and your profile matches one of the following situations:

You have already had a cardiovascular disease or event involving the arteries, such as:

- disease of the arteries of the heart;

- a condition involving blood flow to the brain;

- disease of the arteries in the legs.

Or you have certain risk factors, such as:

- smoking;

- older age;

- a family history of cardiovascular disease;

- high blood pressure;

- diabetes;

- decreased kidney function;

- high cholesterol.

Other criteria apply and will be verified by the research team.

What Participation May Include

If you are eligible and choose to participate, the study may include:

- a study medication taken as a tablet;

- study-related visits and follow-ups;

- support from a team of healthcare professionals;

- financial compensation for time and travel, according to the approved protocol.

Participation is voluntary. Asking a question or completing the form does not oblige you to participate.

The study process in pictures

Explanation

Step 1 | Before starting the study, we will take time to fully explain the selection process and the conduct of the study by phone.

Meeting

Step 2 | After the initial phone interview, if you are still interested in taking part in a study, we schedule a preliminary meeting with you during which you may ask all the questions you wish and take the time you require to read over the consent form. This form explains, in detail, the different stages of each study.

Decision

Step 3 | You may make a decision at that time to move forward with or terminate the selection process. However, you are under no obligation to make an immediate decision. Based on briefing content, you may take the time necessary to come to a decision and consult with your personal physician or loved ones.

Tests

Step 4 | Depending on the nature of the study, some tests or medical examinations may be required. In the majority of cases, these tests or examinations are conducted on Diex Research premises based on your individual availability.

Departure

Step 5 | If you are eligible, you may then begin a clinical study with us.
